In November 2017, Stephanie Verbraekel was hit by a speeding car driver while she crossed the street by foot. She died instantly. Her death led to the creation of citizen collective 1030/0 in Schaerbeek. Shortly after her death, designer Jean-François D’Or, coordinator Pieter Fannes and the family of Stephanie decided to create a monument in remembrance of Stephanie and all other road victims. The touching tribute, called “J’y ai laissé mes plumes”, was unveiled in February 2020 in a ceremony attended by road safety minister Elke Van Den Brandt and mayor Cecile Jodogne.
